MSCHF Keen to add a wildcard to your sneaker rotation? The MSCHF BWD is scheduled to land on April 11 Big Red Boots. The Brooklyn-based art collective have courted all kinds of controversy since their inception in 2018 (see: Keen to add a wildcard to your sneaker rotation? The MSCHF BWD is scheduled to land on April 11 collaboration), but the Big Red Boots undoubtedly hit MSCHF’s apex of influence in February, the oversized, Astro Boy-esque stompers blowing up our social media accounts for weeks.

Now, we’ve got our first look at MSCHF’s latest project, the BWD: a two-way sandal and sneaker mashup that can be worn both ways! Worn with the heel backwards, the BWD almost resembles a sandal with open toes. Worn at its more conservative side and with an exposed ankle, the model is more adjacent to a chunky mule.

Ostensibly pulling influence from the Y2K skate style again rearing its head in the 2020s, the bonkers BWD is crafted with white leather sidewalls and subtle grey striped branding around the corner – a potential dig at Team Trefoil, perhaps? Volcanic suede wraps the rear, while speckled, space-like midsoles are stamped with MSCHF branding. Finally, faux-perforated sidewalls and gum outsoles imbue the shoe with more vintage flair.
